NEW YORK - In support of the National Hockey League's Hockey Is For Everyone™ initiative, the film Soul On Ice: Past, Present, and Future will make its national television debut on the NHL Network this Wednesday, February 24 at 8:00 p.m. ET. Directed by filmmaker Damon Kwame Mason, the program chronicles the history of black hockey players and the impact they have made on the growing participation of the game. Beginning with Willie O'Ree, who became the first black player in the NHL in 1958, the program shares the stories of several prominent black hockey players, including Anson Carter, Trevor Daley, Grant Fuhr, Mike Marson, Tony McKegney, Wayne Simmonds, Joel Ward and NHL Network analyst Kevin Weekes. NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Trevor Daley, Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse, Washington Capitals owner Ted Leonsis, Anson Carter, Damon Kwame Mason and Willie O'Ree are scheduled to join NHL Network's NHL Live™ Powered By Constellation this week to discuss the debut of Soul On Ice: Past, Present, and Future.
