ANAHEIM, CA -- Just over seven months ago in Anaheim, Hunter Shinkaruk scored a goal he won't ever forget.
Earning some power play time in the second period, Shinkaruk slid into the high slot after Sean Monahan had won a draw and knocked the puck back to Mark Giordano. The Flames' captain hammered a shot from the point and Shinkaruk was able to deflect the puck past Frederik Andersen for his first NHL goal.
Tonight in Anaheim, he will be suiting up for his first game with the Flames in the 2016-17 campaign.
The Calgary, AB product was recalled yesterday, earning the call-up after scoring four goals and seven points in seven games with the Stockton Heat this season.
"(He's) playing with a lot of passion," head coach Glen Gulutzan said. "Making plays, making offensive plays, and being around the net all the time. Brad (Treliving) was in Stockton and watched the game, I believe it was on Friday night ... we had two or three of our young players play really well. A left winger going down, it's a good chance for Hunter to come in and show."
