Victor Mete agreed to terms on a one-year, $1.2 million contract with the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday to avoid a salary arbitration hearing.

The 23-year-old defenseman, who was a restricted free agent, scored five points (one goal, four assists) in 28 games for the Senators and Montreal Canadiens last season, including two points (one goal, one assist) in 14 games after he was claimed off waivers by Ottawa on April 12.
"Victor was a really solid addition to our defense corps over the last month of the season last year," Senators general manager Pierre Dorion said. "He's mobile, poised and defensively aware. We're looking forward to seeing his progression in our lineup in 2021-22."
Selected by Montreal in the fourth round (No. 100) of the 2016 NHL Draft, Mete has scored 36 points (five goals, 31 assists) in 199 regular-season games with the Senators and Canadiens and two assists in 10 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
