Jasper Weatherby had a goal and an assist in his first NHL game, helping the San Jose Sharks defeat the Vegas Golden Knights 4-2 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday.
It was the first preseason game for Vegas. San Jose used a split squad. The Sharks were 2-for-3 on the power play, including Alexander Chmelevski's goal that gave them a 1-0 lead 15:29 into the first period. Weatherby extended the lead to 2-0 at 1:02 of the second period with a one-timer from between the circles off a turnover deep in the Vegas defensive zone. Paul Cotter pulled the Golden Knights within 2-1 at 3:00, but Adam Raska restored the two-goal lead for the Sharks by making it 3-1 at 7:31. Max Pacioretty cut it to 3-2 on the power play 34 seconds into the third period. Nolan Patrick assisted on the goal in his Vegas debut. Logan Couture scored a power-play goal at 15:56 for the 4-2 final. Adin Hill made 21 saves for the Sharks. Logan Thompson made 24 saves for the Golden Knights. Vegas forward Mark Stone left the game in the first period after being hit in the face with a puck. There was no update.
