TORONTO - The Canadiens posted a 3-1 victory over the Maple Leafs on Monday night at Scotiabank Arena to win their first-round series 4-3.

Interim head coach Dominique Ducharme stuck with the same lineup that forced the seventh and decisive contest.
That meant that youngster Jake Evans took Tomas Tatar's spot on a line with Phillip Danault and Brendan Gallagher.

Speaking of Gallagher, the Canadiens' No. 11 was clearly pumped for the biggest game of the season to date.
He went about his pregame routine, as per usual.

No doubt rookie Cole Caufield was fired up as well.
The 20-year-old right-winger is no stranger to big NHL games anymore after getting his first taste of the playoffs this year.

There were no goals to report in the first period.
The Canadiens were leading 12-8 in shots after 20 minutes.
Gallagher opened the scoring for the visitors at the 3:02 mark of the second period, beating goaltender Jack Campbell five-hole on a snap shot.
It was Gallagher's first goal of the series and his 12th career playoff snipe.

Eric Staal collected the lone assist on the sequence, helping to cause the turnover that eventually led to the all-important tally.

The Canadiens weren't done there.
Veteran Corey Perry made it 2-0 with a power play goal at the 15:25 mark of the stanza when he redirected a shot from Nick Suzuki past Campbell.
It was Perry's second goal of the series and the 43rd playoff tally of his career.

Defenseman Erik Gustafsson collected the secondary helper on the sequence.
Perry and Suzuki both extended their point streaks to three straight games on the play.
Montreal was also outshooting Toronto by an 18-14 margin heading into the third period.
There were no goals to report in the final frame until Tyler Toffoli scored an empty-netter with 2:38 remaining in regulation.
It was his second goal of the series.
Staal picked up his second helper of the contest on the play. Danault was also credited with an assist as well.
William Nylander got Toronto on the board with 1:36 left in regulation.
It was his fifth goal of the series.
Auston Matthews and Jason Spezza collected the assists.
That's the way this one finished up.
Price made 30 saves in the win.

The Canadiens will open their series against the Jets on Wednesday night at Bell MTS Place in Winnipeg.
