Flyers top Oilers, win consecutive games for second time this season

EDMONTON --The Philadelphia Flyers won consecutive games for the second time this season, defeating the Edmonton Oilers 4-2 at Rogers Place on Wednesday.
Jordan Weal, Dale Weise, Michael Raffl and Wayne Simmonds scored for Philadelphia (10-11-7), and Brian Elliott made 24 saves. Claude Giroux had two assists.

"It definitely feels good to score], definitely the way we played too, it's a pretty complete effort from our team," Weise said. "Getting contributions from everyone, it's going to be huge if we want to keep stringing some wins together. I really liked the way we played the last two games, we made some adjustments through the neutral zone and we're really clogging teams up, they're not coming with as much speed and we're getting out of our zone a little cleaner."

Philadelphia won 5-2 at the Calgary Flames on Monday to end a 10-game losing streak (0-5-5).
Leon Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored for Edmonton (11-15-2), and Laurent Brossoit made 29 saves.
"We can't seem to start two good games in a row, it is setting us back," Draisaitl said. "We always have to come back in games and it takes a lot of energy to do that. I thought we had some good looks in the third, but couldn't capitalize. Credit to them, they played a good game."
Draisaitl scored shorthanded at 3:41 of the second period to give Edmonton a 1-0 lead.
Weal tied the game 1-1 on the power play at 8:53. He finished off a passing play in front on a cross-crease feed from Sean Couturier, who had taken a cross-ice pass from Giroux. The goal ended a 12-game goalless streak for Weal. He last scored on Oct. 30 in a 4-3 overtime loss against the Arizona Coyotes.
"That felt good, it's been a long time coming," Weal said. "It's not been for a lack of hard work and creating chances. It's nice when you can get out with special players like that and I was able to find a good spot and [Couturier] made a good play to find me."

Weise gave the Flyers a 2-1 lead at 14:45, shooting between Brossoit's pads from the top of the left face-off circle.
Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse came close to tying the game 10 seconds into the third period, hitting the crossbar with a shot from the slot.
Raffl gave Philadelphia a 3-1 lead at 4:06 of the third on a breakaway.
"It goes both ways, a few minutes after [hitting the crossbar] they get their breakaway and then they scored," Oilers defenseman Matt Benning said. "This is a game of opportunities and whoever converts better will usually win the game. They had a power-play goal and we didn't."
Nugent-Hopkins scored on a rebound in front at 13:20 to make it 3-2.
Edmonton had a power play with 3:43 to go but could not convert. They had one shot on two power-play opportunities. Philadelphia was 1-for-4 on the power play.
"Our power play was on the ice for four minutes tonight and got one puck to the goalie's pad, that's disappointing," Oilers coach Todd McLellan said. "Their power play got nine shots in twice that amount of time. They looked dangerous and we didn't."
Forward Connor McDavid, who had the assist on Draisaitl's goal, had the only shot on the power play for Edmonton.
"He's a tough player to contain," Flyers coach Dave Hakstol said. "But I thought, overall, our players did a good job."
Simmonds scored into an empty net with 39 seconds remaining to make it 4-2.
