PIT@WSH: Pettersson dives to keep out tying goal

Matt Murray is great, but he needs help every now and again. Fortunately for the Pittsburgh Penguins goalie, Marcus Pettersson was there to lend a hand during the third period Wednesday.

The Penguins defenseman made a diving goal-line save to keep the puck out and preserve Pittsburgh's 2-1 win against the Washington Capitals on Wednesday.
Murray made the initial stop on Lars Eller's snap shot, but the puck leaked through his arm and trickled toward the goal. But Pettersson saw the puck squeeze through Murray and went all out to keep the puck out and the Penguins ahead with about six minutes remaining in regulation.
"Unbelievable," Murray said of Pettersson's play. "That's huge, obviously .... that's a game-saver."
Pettersson got a pat on the head from his goalie for his efforts. The play also earned him the team's Viking helmet, given to the Penguins player of the game as chosen by the previous winner, though he was more humble about the play after the game.
"[Murray] made a great save," Pettersson said. "Luckily I was close and I saw the puck squeeze through him and made a dive for it. But it was a great save by him."
