LAK-VAN

VANCOUVER -- Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty wasn't happy about being victimized on a Vancouver Canucks goal late in the second period, so he made up for it by scoring the game-winner.
Doughty scored the go-ahead goal at 6:49 of the third period to help the Kings to a 4-3 win against the Canucks at Rogers Arena on Saturday.

"I was pretty (ticked) and pretty embarrassed," said Doughty, who got turned around by a Nikolay Goldobin toe-drag that led to a goal with 2:29 left in the second period. "I don't get dangled very often; only the second time I can remember in my NHL career where I got dangled for a goal. I was pretty embarrassed and pretty (ticked) off at myself going into the third period. I knew I was going to do everything in my power to try to help us win that game."

Doughty's first shot was blocked by Alexander Edler between the hash marks, but Doughty quickly shot the loose puck under Jacob Markstrom's blocker-side arm.
"When you get in that tight and that close to the goalie, you've got to rip it," Doughty said.
Nic Dowd scored his first of the season on a 2-on-1 against his former team 41 seconds into the third period to put the Canucks ahead 3-2. But Kyle Clifford tied it on a rebound 1:41 later before Doughty put the Kings ahead on a 1-on-1 rush.
Tyler Toffoli had a goal and two assists, Marian Gaborok had a goal and an assist, and Jonathan Quick made 22 saves for the Kings (23-11-5).
"That's one of our strong suits," Clifford said. "We're always staying in the fight and we never give up. We have real strong identity with our group, and when we play to our identity we usually are successful."
Troy Stecher also scored and Markstrom made 32 saves for the Canucks (16-18-5), who have two wins in their past 11 games (2-8-1).

"These are the games we have deliver more," Canucks captain Henrik Sedin said. "We were up 3-2. We were playing an OK game. We have to be able to finish it off."
Stecher scored his first goal of the season from a sharp angle 4:31 into the first period to give Vancouver a 1-0 lead, but Los Angeles scored two goals one minute apart later in the period.
Gaborik set up Toffoli to tie the game 1-1 at 13:04, driving the net wide behind the defense and getting Markstrom to commit to the ice before passing to Toffoli in the slot.
Gaborik then scored on a power play, driving to the net off the rush and deflecting Trevor Lewis' centering pass at 14:04 to give the Kings a 2-1 lead.
Goldobin tied it 2-2 on a solo rush, beating Doughty with a nice move into the middle and Quick with a backhand from the slot.
"Great players have a short memory," Kings coach John Stevens said of Doughty. "Not very often that happens. I wouldn't expect to see it again for a while."

They said it

"This group has done a really good job of not letting an instance in a game dictate the outcome of a game. They understand it's one play in a game and they know there's 60 minutes in a game and they think there is enough time to make a difference." -- Kings coach John Stevens
"It's not good enough. Right after we score our 3-2 goal, it's just bang-bang and its 4-3 them. It's not good enough. The League is close right now. You don't want to fall behind. We talk about putting games together and putting wins together and we're not doing that." -- Canucks goaltender Jacob Markstrom
