I've always found Luongo to be a character who stirs good emotions, so to see a little payback in that respect, when the Panthers raised Luongo's No. 1 to the rafters at BB&T Center before their game against the Montreal Canadiens on March 7, was a most heartening moment of the NHL season. Luongo, the Florida leader in shutouts with 38, was the first Panthers player to have his jersey retired. He played 20 NHL seasons, 11 with the Panthers, and represented Florida three times (2004, 2015, 2016) at the NHL All-Star Game. To many fans, he was and still is a must-follow on Twitter. "I think he is somebody that represented all of the positive values of our game," NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said. "Perhaps, as importantly, besides excellence on the ice being an important member of whatever community he was living in -- this community in particular, which he's made his permanent home."
