Golden Knights hoping for marathon Game 7 between Lightning, Capitals

LAS VEGAS --The Vegas Golden Knights will be watching when the Washington Capitals and Tampa Bay Lightning play Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Final at Amalie Arena on Wednesday (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN, SN1, TVAS, CBC).
The winner will face the Golden Knights in the Stanley Cup Final, with Game 1 in Vegas or Tampa on Monday. Regardless of who wins, the Western Conference champions would love to see the Capitals and Lightning play a marathon.

"They're two great teams," Vegas coach Gerard Gallant said Tuesday. "I don't know who's winning. They're both excellent hockey teams. It's been a wild seven-game series. I hope it goes into three overtimes tomorrow night."

Heading into the Cup Final, the Golden Knights will again be well-rested, something that has worked to their advantage throughout the Stanley Cup Playoffs. They had eight days off after a four-game sweep of the Los Angeles Kings in the Western Conference First Round and a five-day break following their six-game victory against the San Jose Sharks in the second round.
The Golden Knights will enter the Cup Final after a week off following their five-game win against the Winnipeg Jets in the conference final.

"For me, personally, I just look around and say, 'We're in the Stanley Cup Final, but it doesn't really feel like it's been a grind,'" Gallant said. "We had a great first series, won 4-0, nobody expected that. It wasn't a big deal for our group. We got ready for the next series, and we beat a good San Jose team in six games.
"Now we've got a couple of days off, we'll come back to practice, work hard and prepare for the next series. It doesn't feel like it's the Stanley Cup Final. Our guys are fresh and ready to go. We're fortunate to get a couple days off."
Vegas could have two injured players available for Game 1. Forward William Carrier (undisclosed) has not played since Game 5 against the Sharks on May 4. Goalie Malcolm Subban (undisclosed) has not dressed since Game 2 against the Jets, with Maxime Lagace backing up Marc-Andre Fleury during that time.
"We're hoping they're going to be ready soon," Gallant said. "They're day to day right now. We'll see where they're at in the next couple of days at practice."
