Connor McDavid scored a third-period goal and had three assists for the Edmonton Oilers in a 7-3 win against the Winnipeg Jets at Rogers Place on Thursday.
Ty Rattie had two goals and three assists playing on McDavid's line. McDavid scored 2:58 into the third period of his preseason debut to give the Oilers a 4-2 lead. The two-time NHL scoring champion had an assist on two goals by Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. The first gave Edmonton a 2-0 lead at 2:05 of the second period, the second made it 5-3 at 10:11 of the third period. Jesse Puljujarvi scored his second of the preseason 10:16 into the first period to put Edmonton up 1-0. Marko Dano and Adam Lowry scored for Winnipeg 1:10 apart in the second period to tie it 2-2 at 5:53. Rattie gave the Oilers a 3-2 lead at 12:57. Andrew Copp got Winnipeg within 4-3 at 6:01 of the third period. Milan Lucic made it 6-3 with 3:59 remaining before Rattie scored with 1:15 to go. Cam Talbot made 20 saves for Edmonton. Eric Comrie made 30 for Winnipeg.
