The Detroit Red Wings are coming off a 4-3 loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday and are 2-5-1 in their past eight games. The Red Wings scored a power-play goal against the Sabres, their first in seven games, and are 1-for-28 with the man-advantage during that stretch. Their power play ranks 30th in the NHL (15-for-120, 12.5 percent) and on the road (2-for-45, 4.4 percent). Goaltender Jared Coreau, who was born about 50 miles southwest of Ottawa in Perth, Ontario, and grew up an Ottawa Senators fan, will make his third start of the season and second in three games. He won his last start, 4-3 in a shootout against the Florida Panthers, on Friday. "He's a big guy (6-foot-6, 220 pounds) with, I think, lots of ability," coach Jeff Blashill said. "I've watched him get so much better over the course of the last three years. He's been an elite player in the American [Hockey] League, and what you love to do is wait for guys to become elite in the American league and then come up here and get a chance to show they can do it up here so he's going to get another opportunity to do that."
