Patrik Laine lifts Jets past Stars

WINNIPEG-- Patrik Laine scored his second NHL hat trick to help the Winnipeg Jets defeat the Dallas Stars 8-2 at MTS Centre on Tuesday.
Laine, the No. 2 pick of the 2016 NHL Draft, leads the NHL with 11 goals in 14 games played.
"It's always unbelievable to score," Laine said. "I'm proud of myself and I'm proud of our team. I don't want to think about the future [but] it's amazing to lead the League on the scoreboard."

Laine gave the Jets a 2-0 lead at 8:46 of the first period, redirecting Ben Chiarot's point shot past Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen. His second goal gave the Jets a 3-1 lead at 6:51 of the second period. His initial tip was saved by Lehtonen, who couldn't save Laine's second attempt on the power play.

Laine's hat trick came at 10:07 of the second period. Nikolaj Ehlers sprung Mark Scheifele on a 2-on-1, and Scheifele made a cross-ice pass to Laine, who finished to make it 4-1.
Scheifele scored twice, making it 1-0 at 3:06 of the first period and then scoring on the power play at 19:20 of the second period for a 6-1 lead. He assisted on two goals and took over the NHL scoring lead with 18 points (nine goals, nine assists).
"It's been a dream of mine," Scheifele said. "It's pretty cool, but there is still a lot of the season left and there are a lot of good players (in the League). Hopefully I can stay in the mix. It's pretty humbling. I still have part of my game that I can improve."

Lehtonen was pulled for Antti Niemi after allowing four goals on 11 shots for the Stars (4-6-3). Niemi allowed four goals on 19 shots
"Pretty much embarrassing from start to finish," Stars captain Jamie Benn said. "We came in here and played a terrible game and that's what you get.
"It's pretty much rock bottom, I think. I don't think you can get any worse than that. We've all got to look in the mirror and figure out what we have to do to get better."
Connor Hellebuyck made 28 saves in this third straight start for the Jets (6-7-1).
Jets forward Andrew Copp scored his first of the season shorthanded at 13:49 of the third period, and Adam Lowry scored with 1:44 left.
Patrick Eaves and Tyler Seguin scored for Dallas. Eaves redirected Devin Shore's pass past Hellebuyck on the power play at 1:30 of the second period to make it 2-1. Seguin scored his seventh at 2:32 of the third period on a power-play wraparound to make it 6-2.

Hellebuyck made two saves on Antoine Roussel at about the five-minute mark of the third period.

Jets defenseman Toby Enstrom left the game after taking a hit but returned in the first period.
