The rundown: Any concern that Columbus would come out of its five-day break sluggish were erased quickly. The Blue Jackets controlled the first period nearly start to finish, and took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission on Jordan Schroder's first goal of the season.
It was also Schroeder's first goal as a Blue Jacket, which he scored after Tyler Motte's nice forechecking effort.
Motte pressured Stars defenseman Dan Hamhuis behind the Dallas net, and had a pass attempt deflect off his shin pad. The puck landed in front of the net, and Schroeder chipped it past Stars goalie Ben Bishop on the short side.
Dallas finished the period on a power play, though, after Columbus rookie center Pierre-Luc Dubois was called for hooking at 18:39 - leaving the Stars with 39 seconds of carryover time on the man-advantage to start the second.

The rundown: Dallas turned things around on Columbus in the second, outshooting the Blue Jackets by seven and dominating puck-possession metrics.
The Stars just weren't able to get the puck past Blue Jackets goalie Joonas Koripsalo, who made several outstanding saves. Korpisalo was a surprise starter, after Sergei Bobrovsky played well in starting the previous six games prior to the break.
The Stars got two power plays in the second, getting three shots on goal, but weren't able to score on either one.

The rundown: Another period dominated by the Stars, who still had trouble getting the puck past Korpisalo.
They did it once, on a goal by Alexander Radulov 3:12 into the period, but the goal was overturned by a coach's challenge that confirmed goaltender interference. Dallas eventually tied it, 1-1, when Radulov scored on a shot from the point with 2:05 left - sending the game past regulation.
