Tyson Barrie, Avalanche go to arbitration

Colorado Avalanche defenseman Tyson Barrie had his arbitration hearing Friday in Toronto.
The Avalanche asked that Barrie receive a two-year, $8.25 million contract. Barrie asked for one year at $6 million, the Denver Post reported Friday.

Barrie, 25, was the only NHL player out of 25 to not sign a contract prior to his hearing this offseason. He tied his NHL career high with 13 goals and five game-winning goals, and had 49 points in 78 games last season. Barrie had three power-play goals and 21 power-play points.
A decision will be made 48 hours from the end of the hearing, according to the collective bargaining agreement with the NHL Players' Association. The Avalanche can sign Barrie to a contract before the arbitrator's ruling.
Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Martin Marincin, who was scheduled to have a hearing Tuesday, signed a two-year, $2.5 million contract Friday. He was the only remaining player set to go to arbitration.
