Lafferty scores twice short-handed in Blackhawks win against Sharks

SAN JOSE -- Sam Lafferty scored two short-handed goals and had an assist for the Chicago Blackhawks in a 5-2 win against the San Jose Sharks at SAP Center on Saturday.

"Feels really good," Lafferty said. "All around good clears, good speed, good pressure and a couple of good bounces."
Jason Dickinson had a goal and two assists in his debut, Taylor Raddysh had a goal and an assist, and Petr Mrazek made 24 saves to help Luke Richardson get his first win as coach of the Blackhawks, who went 1-2-0 on a season-opening road trip.
"It's nice to end the road trip with a win after losing the first two and to be able to go back home now and enjoy it and get some home games," Raddysh said.

Erik Karlsson had a goal and an assist, and Kaapo Kahkonen made 20 saves for the Sharks (0-4-0), who lost to the Carolina Hurricanes 2-1 on Friday.
"Nobody feels sorry for you in this league," Sharks coach David Quinn said. "Nobody cares why you lose, they just see 0-4 and they see you lose 5-2, so we've got to find ways to be more consistent."
Chicago scored five straight goals after trailing 2-0.
"We had a chance to just stop at the net-front and defend and live another day, and we didn't do that. We panicked," Quinn said. "We chased the puck. We played mindless and it ends up in the back of your net."
Jonathan Toews cut it to 2-1 at 7:21 of the second period before the Blackhawks took back-to-back penalties. Lafferty scored a short-handed goal on each one, tying the score 2-2 at 8:27 on a rebound of a Dickinson shot, and giving the Blackhawks a 3-2 lead at 10:35 on pass from Dickinson from behind the net while he was lying on the ice.
"Sometimes it happens to a lot of players, they get on the power play and they just abandon what hockey is all about," Quinn said. "And that's all that happened on those goals."
Raddysh increased the lead to 4-2 at 5:08 of the third period when Tyler Johnson blocked a shot by Mario Ferraro and Raddysh scored on a breakaway.
"That was pretty special, just to have a guy like that," Raddysh said of the blocked shot.

Dickinson scored at 9:37 for the 5-2 final.
"In this game, a lot of adversity is thrown your way and it's about how you react to it, and we haven't done a good enough job so far," Sharks forward Logan Couture said. "You lose four in a row you're not jumping for joy. Guys are upset, frustrated, everything that you can imagine when you're going through tough times."
Nico Sturm put the Sharks ahead 1-0 at 13:58 of the first period. Karlsson sent a cross-ice pass, and Sturm scored through traffic from the left face-off circle.
Karlsson made it 2-0 at 19:22 with a shot from the blue line that deflected off the skate of Blackhawks defenseman Seth Jones in front of the net.
"Our first period, we were really good the first half of the first period and then I think we thought it was coming maybe a little too easy," Richardson said. "We took the foot off the pedal and had a couple scrambling [defensive]-zones they ended up capitalizing on. We kind of went to the dressing room after the first and just chatted with the guys. Credit to all the leaders in that room. I didn't say too much."
NOTES:Lafferty is the seventh Blackhawks player since 1933-34, when goals by type officially began being tracked, to score two short-handed goals in a period and the first since Rene Bourque on Feb. 28, 2008. He is the first player to score two short-handed goals against the Sharks in the same game since Detroit Red Wings forward Kirk Maltby on Oct. 10, 2002. ... Dickinson fell one point short of tying Martin Havlat, who had four points (two goals, two assists) in his debut with Chicago on Oct. 5, 2006, in an 8-6 win against the Nashville Predators.
