Bio

Nico Sturm Bio

Nico Sturm started coming into his own during his second full NHL season as a regular on the fourth line for the Minnesota Wild. He's provided scoring reminiscent of the time he led Clarkson University with 31 assists, 45 points and a plus-23 rating in 39 games of his junior season while proving adept at winning face-offs (392 of 677, 57.9 percent). Sturm was named ECAC Hockey Best Defensive Forward for the second consecutive season and a top 10 finalist for the Hobey Baker Award given to the best player in NCAA Division I hockey. The accolades earned the undrafted free agent a one-year, entry-level contract on April 1, 2019.

Sturm scored 103 points (36 goals, 67 assists) and was plus-47 in 118 games for Clarkson (2016-19). The native of Augsburg, Germany also scored 39 points (14 goals, 25 assists) in 57 games for Tri-City of the United States Hockey League in 2015-16, and six points (three goals, three assists) in five playoff games to help it win the Clark Cup. His success in college was another step in the development that took him from youth hockey in Germany to a move to North America to play for Corpus Christi and Austin of the North American Hockey League from 2014-15.
