Toews, Johnson lift Blackhawks to 4-1 win

PHILADELPHIA -- The Chicago Blackhawks ended a 17-game road skid against the Philadelphia Flyers with a 4-1 win at Wells Fargo Center on Thursday.

Petr Mrazek made 38 saves, and Jonathan Toews had a goal and an assist for the Blackhawks (13-26-4), who scored four straight after trailing 1-0 to win for the fifth time in their past six games (5-1-0).
It was their first regular-season victory at Philadelphia since Nov. 9, 1996 (0-16-1). They won Game 6 here in the 2010 Stanley Cup Final.
"We're just connected right now, playing some pretty good hockey together," Chicago defenseman Seth Jones said. "I think we're all on the same page when it comes to how we have to play at the moment and everyone's buying in, so it's been good."
Morgan Frost scored for the Flyers (19-20-7), who have lost two of three. Carter Hart made 25 saves.
"To be honest, I think they just outworked us," Frost said. "Clearly, we lacked some energy there. I don't know what the cause of that is, but they played harder. I don't think we really deserved to win tonight."

CHI@PHI: Toews puts Blackhawks on the board

Mrazek made 15 saves in the second period and 17 saves in the third period.
"He's a battler," Blackhawks coach Luke Richardson said. "He works hard. And there's been so many games this year ... we haven't gotten a lot of goal support when he's played well and kept us in the game. It's really nice to see a guy get rewarded in that way. You can't go out and score goals, so we've got to get a few for him to have success in the net."
Frost made it 1-0 at 8:52 of the first period. Nick Seeler took advantage of a turnover in the defensive zone and passed to Frost, who crossed the Chicago blue line, deked Jones to create space for himself and beat Mrazek over his glove.
Toews tied it at 9:51 of the second when he skated into the slot and tipped Jones' shot from the right point over Hart's right shoulder.
"High tip and a screen," Hart said. "Didn't really see the release. Just tried to get my body in front, and he makes a pretty good tip under the bar."
Reese Johnson made it 2-1 at 15:51. Flyers forward Owen Tippett turned the puck over at the Philadelphia blue line, and Blackwell centered it to Johnson, who scored from the slot.
Tyler Johnson scored on the rebound of a Patrick Kane shot 35 seconds into the third period to make it 3-1.
"The first shift [of the third] basically kind of dictated the way we're going to play the rest of the way," Richardson said. "It was a great goal by 'Kaner' shooting that puck and Tyler stripping it in the neutral zone and then finishing off at the net. I think it took some life out of them and it gave us some life. So, I think that was a big key to the game."

CHI@PHI: Johnson gets in on a rebound for a goal

Philipp Kurashev scored an empty-net goal with 42 seconds left for the 4-1 final.
"Across the board we looked flat," Flyers coach John Tortorella said. "I don't think we played with enough energy. You could tell from the start it's one of those games. I didn't like much of it at all."
It was Mrazek's third win in his past four starts. He's won his past two since allowing four goals on five shots in an 8-5 loss at the Seattle Kraken on Jan. 14.
"I think I've been a little more aggressive when we are in our zone," Mrazek said. "I'm out of the blue (paint), I can see the puck well and guys are boxing the players [out] well so I can be more aggressive. I think it's working right now."
NOTES:Blackhawks forward Andreas Athanasiou appeared to score at 9:01 of the first period, but the goal was overturned after a coach's challenge showed Athanasiou was offside. ... Toews has six points (two goals, four assists) during a four-game point streak. ... Seth Jones has seven points (two goals, five assists) during a three-game point streak.
