MTL@VGK, Gm1: Reaction to Caufield’s 1st playoff goal

Cole Caufield made his mom cry Monday. But it was OK.

The Montreal Canadiens forward made his parents proud by scoring his first Stanley Cup Playoff goal in the second period of Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Semifinals against the Vegas Golden Knights.
Caufield's dad Paul, mom Kelly and brother Brock were at T-Mobile Arena, watching Cole play live in the NHL for first time, when he struck for a power-play goal at 12:05 of the second that cut Montreal's deficit to 2-1.
Brock, clad in a "Goal Caufield" t-shirt, hugged his mom, and the parents, each wearing their son's jersey, hung on for a lengthy embrace. As the camera panned to Kelly, she appeared to get emotional for Caufield's fifth point in his 10th playoff game.
Just seeing his family in person felt extraordinary for Cole.
"It's pretty special to have them at the game. It's really special to be in the same country as them, honestly," Caufield said after the game. "It was a really special feeling."
The Caufields, who hail from Stevens Point, Wisconsin, weren't the only proud Wisconsinites celebrating Cole's goal. JJ Watt, the Waukesha native and three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, also tweeted his excitement.

Unfortunately for the Canadiens, Caufield's goal was the only one for Montreal on Monday, and Vegas took a 1-0 series lead with a 4-1 win.
