Detroit went 0-for-3 with the man-advantage in the second period, when Kochetkov made 13 saves. The Red Wings didn't have a shot on their first two power-play opportunities.
"It isn't just goals on the power play, it is definitely about bringing momentum, and I don't think we did a good enough job of that," Detroit forward David Perron said. "The first two were definitely not good enough. The third one, we started building something and couldn't get one."
Andrei Svechnikov nearly doubled Carolina's lead at 3:21 of the third period, but his shot hit the post.
Pius Suter had the Red Wings' best chance at 12:51, but Kochetkov got the tip of his glove on the shot and pushed it wide.
