ST. LOUIS -- Defenseman Carl Gunnarsson signed a three-year contract with the St. Louis Blues on Friday.
The 29-year-old, who would have been an unrestricted free agent July 1, signed for $8.7 million, an average annual value of $2.9 million.

Gunnarsson was acquired at the 2014 NHL Draft in a trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs for defenseman Roman Polak.
Gunnarsson has two goals and five assists in 62 games this season.
He has played 123 regular-season games with the Blues and has 19 points (four goals, 15 assists). In 427 NHL games in seven seasons, he has 19 goals and 86 assists.
