Bruins honor Brown University

The Boston Bruins showed their support to Brown University before their game against the Utah Mammoth at TD Garden on Tuesday.

Two people were killed and nine were injured during a shooting on the Ivy League campus in Providence, Rhode Island on Saturday.

Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy wore a Brown Bears sweatshirt during player arrivals.

The team hung a custom Bruins jersey by their bench that said, “Brown Univ” and “401,” Rhode Island’s area code, to honor the victims.

Brown University is located about 50 miles north of TD Garden.

The tragedy affected others across the League including Montreal head coach Martin St. Louis, whose son, Ryan, goes to school at the university and plays for their hockey team.

During his postgame interview on Sunday, St. Louis said his son was safe and was on campus during the shooting. He was sheltering in place while the Canadiens were playing the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

“It's a tragedy, it hit home,” St. Louis said during the press conference. “I want to send my thoughts and prayers to everybody involved, the students, the families, that community. Stuff like that shouldn't happen.”
