The Chicago Blackhawks will host their second edition of "One More Shift," an ode to past alumni that allows fans to recognize them one more time as they skate on the ice, when they host New York Rangers on Friday, Dec. 9.
Former Blackhawks forward Steve Larmer will be the second honoree to join the 2016-17 team on the ice during the anthem after the starting lineup has been announced on Friday. In addition to skating on the ice in full gear, in-arena elements will also feature Larmer and the era he played in. Blackhawks Ambassador Denis Savard was the first alumni honored with "One More Shift" on Sunday, Nov. 13, when the Blackhawks hosted the Montreal Canadiens.
Larmer played 13 of his 15-year National Hockey League career with the Blackhawks and currently ranks fourth in team history in points (923), third in goals (406), fifth in assists (517) and seventh in games played (891). Chicago's sixth-round pick (120th overall) in the 1980 NHL Draft, Larmer won the Calder Memorial Trophy in 1983 as the player selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition in the NHL after posting 90 points (43G, 47A) in 80 regular-season games; he was also named to the NHL All-Rookie team that season. The two-time All-Star played in 884 consecutive games with the Blackhawks from 1982-93, setting an NHL record for most consecutive games played with the same team. The streak also marks the third longest consecutive-games streak in league history. Larmer, a Peterborough, Ontario, native, won the 1994 Stanley Cup with the New York Rangers. He finished his career with 1,012 points (441G, 571A) in 1,006 regular-season games and 131 points (56G, 75A) in 140 Stanley Cup Playoffs games. He also played for Team Canada at the 1991 Canada Cup and led the tournament in goals (6) and ranked second in points (11).
