Coyotes celebration SS

The overtime between the Arizona Coyotes and Toronto Maple Leafs at Air Canada Centre in Toronto on Thursday had a bit of everything, except the game-deciding goal.

There was Auston Matthews' baseball-style shot off William Nylander's saucer pass that Coyotes goalie Mike Smith somehow stopped early in overtime.

After a stretch of wide-open, end-to-end play, the post-hitting started. With 2.3 seconds left in overtime Radim Vrbata had an opportunity right in front of the net to win the game but Maple Leafs goalie Frederik Andersen was saved by the crossbar.
Andersen and Smith gave each other

for their excellent overtime play, but both goalies were as lucky as they were good in the shootout. Smith got help from the posts on all three Toronto shooters. He even rubbed the crossbar to thank it for stopping James van Riemsdyk's shot.
"We hit a bar and two posts [in the shootout]," Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock said after the game. "Let's be honest, we did tons of good things."

Forward Anthony Duclair, the Coyotes' first shooter, hit the post, and after Andersen stopped Vrbata, forward Peter Holland, who was traded to the Coyotes by the Maple Leafs on Dec. 9, scored the only goal of the shootout.
The overtime resonated with fans across North America, including PGA Tour golfer Graham DeLaet and actor Frankie Muniz.
