Trouba suspended two games

Jacob Trouba has been suspended two games by the NHL's Department of Player Safety following an open-ice hit on Senators Mark Stone on Sunday in Ottawa.
Trouba was issued a two-minute minor penalty for an illegal check to the head. Stone left the game and did not return, but did not suffer an injury.

The Department of Player Safety released the following video explaining the infraction and, the decision to suspend Trouba, in great detail:

"As stone makes a pass to a teammate, Trouba steps up and delivers a high, forceful blow that makes the head the main point of contact, on such a hit where such head contact was avoidable," the league said in the video. "It is important to note that Stone does not materially change the position of his head just prior to or simultaneous with contact in a way that contributes to the head being the main point of contact.
"The onus is on Trouba to deliver a full-body hit through his body's core. Instead, Trouba takes a poor angle of approach, picking Stone's head and making it the main point of contact on a forceful hit."
Trouba will be eligible to return to Winnipeg's lineup on on Mar. 3 when the Jets host the St. Louis Blues.
Julian Melchiori, who was recalled by the Jets on Feb. 14, is likely to play in Trouba's absence, beginning tomorrow when the Jets close out a four-game road trip against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
