In a Qualifying Round series that is so statistically even, special teams could make a big difference between the Winnipeg Jets and Calgary Flames.
When it comes to the power play, both teams surged up the rankings in the 2020 portion of the calendar.
The Jets were sitting 15th in the NHL on the man advantage after a 7-4 win over the Colorado Avalanche on December 31, 2019. But from January 1 through a 4-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on March 12, Winnipeg's power play clipped along at a rate of 22.4 per cent - the 10th best in the league in that span.
Calgary's power play also caught fire in 2020. Since January 1, the Flames power play is the fifth best in the league with a 25.7 per cent efficiency.
