The New York Islanders were mathematically eliminated from the postseason, falling 3-0 to the Florida Panthers on Monday at Barclays Center.
"It's tough for us and it's not good enough," Head Coach Doug Weight said. "It's tough for the fans and everyone involved."
James Reimer made 32 saves as the Islanders - who entered the game seventh in goals-per-game (3.19) - were shut out for the fifth time this season. The loss was the Islanders' third straight and concluded the team's five-game homestand (1-4-0).

"It's a 3-0 result and it looks like it's abysmal, but it wasn't," Weight said. "They worked and yet again their goaltender played really well."
For the second straight game, the Islanders got off to a strong start - highlighted by a Josh Bailey backhand through the crease and a Cal Clutterbuck shot off the post. Like Saturday, the early chances didn't yield a goal and instead the Islanders found themselves trailing.

"Right up until they scored that first goal we had a lot going for us and you think it would be a different game if maybe we got one of those," Thomas Hickey said. "Then the special teams set in and it was a very different type of hockey game. We were good from the jump but it's discouraging."
Penalties became the calling card of Monday's game, with the Islanders taking six straight infractions - including a double-minor - spanning a 19-minute stretch from midway through the first period to the halfway point of the second. That span was also dotted with some post-whistle scrums as frustration appeared to boil over.
The Panthers went up 2-0 during that run of power plays, as Mathew Barzal was issued a double minor for high sticking Vincent Trochek and drawing blood. On the ensuring penalty Jamie McGinn fed Nick Bjugstad with a cross-ice feed that Bjugstad buried under Chris Gibson's glove at 1:47.

A bad bounce made it 3-0 shortly after, as Evgenii Dadonov's centering feed from the half wall caught Brandon Davidson's skate and deflected past Gibson at 6:09. The Islanders had a pair of power plays to end the period to try and get back in the game, but couldn't convert, with Reimer stonewalling a Ryan Pulock one-timer, as well as a handful of other chances.
"We were in the box too much and then obviously we had some chances on the power play we didn't capitalize," Jordan Eberle said. "It's one of those games where you have to find a way to win. Their goalie was making some big saves but you have to find a way to get in and around the net and get something greasy in, and we didn't do that."
