The New York Islanders fell 5-2 to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday night at Scotiabank Arena.
Anders Lee had both goals for the Islanders, while William Nylander (2G, 2A), John Tavares (1G, 1A) Calle Jarnkrok and Auston Matthews scored for the Maple Leafs. The Islanders gave up four goals in the second period, with Nylander recording a point in all four goals.
Ilya Sorokin made 34 saves in the loss, including a penalty shot in the second period. Ilya Samsonov made 31 saves in the victory.

1st Period:
19:37 - NYI 1, TOR 0 - Anders Lee buries the loose puck in front of the net to open the scoring late in the first frame. Brock Nelson and Sebastian Aho pick up the assists.

5:07 -TOR 1, NYI 1 - William Nylander receives a drop pass from John Tavares and wrists the puck past Sorokin to get Toronto on the board. Mark Giordano tallies the secondary assist.
6:18 - NYI 2, TOR 1 - Lee scores his 17th goal of the season with a hard one-timer from the dot, quickly regaining the Islanders lead 1:11 after the Leafs tied the game. Kyle Palmieri and Mathew Barzal tally assists.

7:53 - TOR 2, NYI 2 PPG - During a shift change, goaltender Ilya Samsonov hits William Nylander with a stretch pass at the Islanders blue line. Nylander collects the puck and dishes it to John Tavares, who pushes in alone and ties the score at two apiece. Samsonov's assist, marks his first goalie point of the season.
9:33 - TOR 3, NYI 2 - The Maple Leads grab their first lead of the night, as Nylander springs Calle Jarnkrok on a breakaway. Jarnkrok controls the rolling puck and fires the shot past Sorokin. Justin Holl records the secondary assist.
16:32 - TOR 4, NYI 2 - William Nylander records his second goal of the night and fourth point of the period, finding a shooting lane to wrist a shot past Sorokin to double the lead for Toronto.
3rd Period:
7:44 - TOR 5, NYI 2 - Auston Mathews deepens the lead for Toronto with his 25th goal of the season. Justin Holl picks up his second assist of the night.
NOTEBOOK:
Adam Pelech and Kyle Palmieri were activated off IR, the team announced this morning. In Pelech's first game back in the lineup since Dec. 6, he recorded two hits and one shot in 16:55 TOI… Palmieri played in his first game after missing 27-of-28 games, recording an assist, nine shot attempts and a career-high seven hits against the Leafs… The Islanders have not scored in the third frame for 10 consecutive games... Samuel Bolduc made his NHL debut and had three attempted shots and recorded three hits in 14:28 TOI… Noah Dobson did not skate against Toronto, ending his iron man streak after playing 113 consecutive games with the Islanders... Mat Barzal snapped a seven-game pointless drought with an assist on Lee's second goal... Ilya Sorokin denied Michael Bunting's penalty shot in the second period...
