Game 76
Buffalo 4, Isles 3
Peyton Krebs broke a 2-2 tie with 3:01 to play, and a Bo Byram empty-netter 78 seconds later turned out to be the winner as the Buffalo Sabres defeated the Islanders, 4-3, before a sellout crowd of 19,070 at KeyBank Center.
The teams traded power play goals over the first two periods, and when Anders Lee re-tied the game with 6:21 to play but Krebs' goal sent the Isles to a second straight defeat. Matthew Schaefer assisted on the Lee goal to set a club rookie defensemen record with his 57th point.

Brayden Schenn's last-second goal made Bowen Byram's empty-netter the game-winner; it is the third time the Isles have allowed a game-winner into an empty-net (1/27/22 vs LA and 12/29/99 vs TOR) and the first time it has ever happened on the road.
Milestone Men
• Ondrej Palat played his 900th NHL game; Casey Cizikas and Anders Lee did that earlier this season.

• Schaefer has tied Phil Housley's record for points by an 18-year-old defenseman.
• Schaefer has 22 goals, tying Barry Beck (22) for the second-highest total in a season. His next goal will tie Brian Leetch's NHL record.
• Schaefer now has 203 shots on goal; he is the first rookie defenseman with at least 200 shots since Dion Phaneuf in 2005-06. Noah Dobson (206 in 2022-23) is the only Islander defenseman with more shots on goal in the last 20 years.
• Ilya Sorokin appeared in a 50th game for the fifth straight season to set a club record; Rick DiPietro did so four times (and they were consecutive with a lockout in the middle).
• Bo Horvat has 299 NHL goals; among 2013 draft picks only Nathan MacKinnon (415) and Jake Guentzel (303) have more. To date, 244 NHL players have scored 300 goals.
• Horvat has 98 goals as an Islander; only 34 players have reached 100 in club history.
• Mathew Barzal needs one assist to become the fifth Islander (and first this century) with at least three 50-assist seasons.
• Patrick Roy has 97 wins as an Islander coach; only 3 coaches have won at least 100 games for the Isles.
