An energized crowd at UBS Arena on Wednesday night chanted "We want playoffs," and the New York Islanders delivered.
The Islanders clinched a playoff spot for the fourth time in five seasons with a 4-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens. Brock Nelson (2G), Hudson Fasching and Anders Lee scored for the Islanders to secure their playoff spot, while Rem Pitlick and Nicholas Suzuki (SHG) scored for Montreal.
Ilya Sorokin made 17 saves in the clinching win and will see the postseason for the second time in his career.
The Islanders finished the season with 93 points with a record of 42-31-9. They currently occupy the first wild card spot in the Eastern Conference, one point ahead of the Florida Panthers (92 points), though the Panthers can reclaim the first wild card spot with a win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night.

1st Period:
10:26 - NYI 1, MTL 0 - Kyle Palmieri sends a feed to Brock Nelson, who navigates through defenders and into the slot, wristing one through traffic to beat Sam Montembeault to open the scoring. Adam Pelech records the secondary assist.

17:38 - NYI 1, MTL 1 - The Islanders turn the puck over exiting the zone and Jake Evans moves down the slot and makes a sharp pass to Rem Pitlick, who fires a one timer past Ilya Sorokin to tie the game.
18:57 - NYI 2, MTL 1 - Zach Parise deflects a JG Pageau shot, which hits the crossbar, bounces up and lands behind the Montreal netminder. Hudson Fasching hustles to the front of the net to jam it home to recover the lead.

2nd Period:
10:20 - NYI 3, MTL 1 - Noah Dobson fires off a long shot from the point to find the stick of Nelson, who chops it down to deflect past Montembeault to take a two-goal lead. Scott Mayfield collects the secondary assist.

16:38 - NYI 3, MTL 2SHG -Nick Suzuki breaks into the Islanders zone on a one-on-one with Samuel Bolduc and shelfs one past Sorokin on one knee to bring the Canadiens within one.
3rd Period:
16:00 - NYI 4, MTL 2 PPG - The last goal of game 82 was a power-play goal for the Islanders. Sebastian Aho takes a long shot from the point, which is deflected by Anders Lee to regain the two-goal advantage in the waning minutes of the third period. \

Brock Nelson buried a pair of goals for his eighth multi-goal game of the season. Nelson has four goals and two assists in his last four games. Nelson has 13 points (10G, 3A) in his last seven games vs Montreal... Anders Lee scored to snap a nine-game scoreless drought... Hudson Fasching scored his 10th goal of the season, extending his point streak to four games (3G, 1A), which matches a career-high streak... Noah Dobson extended his assist streak to five over the last four games... Bailey slotted back into the lineup and skated 11:59, playing for the first time since Apr. 2...
