The New York Islanders got a much-needed win on Friday night, beating the Detroit Red Wings 2-0 at UBS Arena.
The victory was the Islanders first since Jan. 14 and put a halt to an 0-4-2 winless stretch. It also came against the team directly behind the Islanders in the standings, putting them three points up on the Red Wings, though Detroit still holds three games in hand.
Brock Nelson had a goal and an assist in the win, and Anders Lee also scored for New York, while Kyle Palmieri had a pair of assists.
Ilya Sorokin recorded 23 saves for his fourth shutout of the season and the 14th of his career.
