Bo Horvat Named to Team Canada for Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026

Bo Horvat was named to Team Canada for the 2026 Winter Olympic Games Milano Cortina on Wednesday afternoon.

Horvat will play in the Olympic Winter Games for the first time in his career, as the NHL has not sent players to the Olympic Winter Games since Sochi 2014.

The London, ON, native has represented Canada internationally at the IIHF World Championships (2025, 2018), the World Juniors (2014) and the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge (2012). Horvat recorded eight points (4G, 4A) at last year’s Worlds before an injury prematurely ended his tournament.

Horvat has 33 points (21G, 12A) in 35 games this season for the Islanders, leading the team in both goals and points. Horvat’s 21 goals are tied for seventh among Canadian skaters this season with Sidney Crosby and Macklin Celebrini.

Horvat also boasts a 57.7 FOW% this season, which is third highest among Canadian skaters with at least 500 face-offs taken. His well-rounded game was likely appealing to Team Canada, as Horvat averages 2:05 SH TOI/GP and 3:57 PP TOI/GP and can play in all situations. Horvat is one of three Canadian forwards – along Florida’s Sam Reinhart and Washington’s Tom Wilson – to average over two minutes of shorthanded ice time and two minutes of power-play time per game this season.

"Bo has a lot of the attributes we're looking for," Team Canada General Manager Doug Armstrong told reporters. "We want to be able to play inside, get to the net. He's a player that played left wing with [Nathan] MacKinnon at the World Championships last year. He can play multiple positions for us. Of the players we selected, he's our highest face-off guy, so he adds that element to the selection process."

Armstrong added, "Just an all-around, good 200-foot player that can touch both ends of the special teams, if needed, and has a multi positional aspect to him that made him a very appealing player for us."

Team Canada will compete in Group A along with Team Czechia, Team France and Team Switzerland. Team Canada plays its first game on Feb. 12 against Team Czechia, faces Team Switzerland the next day and concludes preliminary play against Team France on Feb. 15.
