Last Game...

  • The Canes earned their first victory of the preseason on Sunday, defeating the Nashville Predators by a score of 4-2.
  • Prospect Bradly Nadeau led the charge with a pair of goals, and Jackson Blake rode shotgun with a pair of assists.
  • In net, Cayden Primeau was solid in his second preseason start, stopping 18 out of 20 shots faced once again.

Veteran Rule...

  • As a reminder, NHL teams must dress at least eight “veterans” in each preseason contest. “Veterans” are skaters who played 30 NHL games the previous season, goalies who dressed in 50 NHL games or played in 30 NHL games the previous year, any player who has played 100+ NHL games, or a current year first-round pick.

Another Opportunity Awaits...

  • Forwards Kevin Labanc and Bradly Nadeau are set to skate in their fifth game of the preseason tonight.
  • The only two skaters on the roster to play in each exhibition contest thus far, Labanc, in camp on a professional tryout (PTO), has recorded three assists and a fight.
  • For Nadeau, he leads the team with four points in the four games. It's clear that the organization wants to see the 2023 first-rounder in as many game situations as possible as he enters his second pro season. After becoming the fifth U20 player in AHL history to score 30+ goals last season, Nadeau is knocking on the NHL door and will look to make the most of his next opportunity this evening.

In Net...

  • Tonight will feature one or both of Frederik Andersen and Nikita Quapp between the pipes for Carolina.
  • Andersen had a light workload in his first preseason outing, stopping all eight shots faced from the Panthers through 40 minutes of work Wednesday night at Lenovo Center. Quapp, meanwhile, would be in line for his Hurricanes preseason debut.
  • As for Pyotr Kochetkov, the only netminder in camp who has yet to be named in a preseason lineup, Brind'Amour said on Thursday that the 26-year-old is dealing with a minor injury, having "tweaked something".

Injury Updates

  • Defenseman Jaccob Slavin skated with Group C1 for the first time in training camp on Thursday, Sept. 25. He'd been held out due to a minor injury prior to that. Working in a no-contact sweater, Rod Brind'Amour had previously said that the defenseman may not play in the preseason.
  • Defenseman Jalen Chatfield has not practiced since Friday, Sept. 19 due to a minor injury of his own. Like Slavin, Brind'Amour said he would not be concerned if Chatfield does not play in any preseason games.
  • Forward Juha Jaaska has been dealing with a minor injury since Sept. 21. He has been considered day-to-day.
  • Forward Jesperi Kotkaniemi took a stick to the face during the team's exhibition game against Tampa on Sept. 26 and did not return. Brind'Amour said the following day that he thinks "he's going to be okay", but no further update was available.
  • Goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov "tweaked something" and is not practicing as of Sept. 25. There is no timetable for his return.

What Are We Wearing?

  • The Canes are scheduled to wear their new white uniforms for all six preseason games.
