Fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 6:45 p.m. for a special pregame ceremony
recognizing longtime Ducks executive David McNab
, with appearances from Ducks alumni including Teemu Selanne, Paul Kariya and Steve Rucchin.
Anaheim earned the 999th win in franchise history Sunday with a 5-1 victory over Vancouver. The Ducks own a 999-838-200 all-time record and a .538 point percentage, the latter seventh among NHL clubs in Anaheim's 27 seasons.
Getzlaf also sits just below 1,000 after recording his 998th and 999th career points, all with the Ducks, with two assists on Sunday. With one more point, Anaheim's captain will become the 92nd player all-time to record 1,000 points and the 39th player in NHL history to do so all with the same club.
Of the 29 retired players to record their first 1,000 points with a single franchise, 26 have been elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame.
With 17 points in 16 games, Getzlaf ranks tied for third among league leaders in assists (16) and tied for tenth in scoring. He also has 28 points in 20 career games against Washington, including 17 points (4-13=17) in his last eight appearances.
Ducks winger Troy Terry is also looking to prolong his piece of franchise history, currently on a 14-game point streak, tied for the fourth-longest run by a Duck. Terry's streak also matches Connor McDavid for the longest in the NHL this season. Getzlaf (15, 2008-09), Selanne (17, 1999) and Corey Perry (19 games in 2009) are the only players in franchise history with longer scoring streaks than Terry.
The 24-year-old winger sits tied for third in the NHL in goals (11) and tied for fourth in points (11-9=20). He was named the NHL's Third Star of the Week with six points in three games last week.
The Getzlaf-Terry duo headlines what has been a consistent offensive attack for the Ducks. Anaheim's 57 goals are second among NHL clubs, one shy of top-ranked Edmonton. The Ducks are also the only NHL club to score three-plus goals in 11 straight games this season.
The Capitals are in Anaheim to begin a four-game roadtrip, visiting the West Coast for the first time since the 2019-20 season. Like the Ducks, the Capitals have raced out to a hot start with a 9-2-4 record, tied for first in the Metropolitan Division. Washington is again one of the top scoring teams in the NHL, currently third in goals per game (3.60).
Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin recently passed Marcel Dionne (6th) and Brett Hull (5th) for fourth place on the NHL's all-time goal scoring leaderboard. Ovechkin (742) sits just 153 goals from breaking Wayne Gretzky's all-time record.
The Ducks have a 19-14-6 all-time record against the Capitals and wins in three of the last four meetings at Honda Center. Anaheim and Washington will conclude a two-game season series on December 6 at Capital One Arena.
