Todd Marchant talks about the 2007 champs text group

It's been a nostalgic week for Ducks fans, as each game of the 2007 Stanley Cup Final have been re-aired and presented by Budweiser on Prime Ticket, FOX Sports San Diego and FOX Sports Go, providing wistful memories of Anaheim capturing the franchise's first championship. It's been especially meaningful for that 2007 championship team, most of whom have gathered in a text group to enjoy the games together.

Todd Marchant, one of the veteran leaders of that team and the current Ducks Director of Player Development organized the group, and talked today about connecting with his former teammates. They'll do it again tonight as Prime Ticket, FOX Sports San Diego and FOX Sports Go re-airs the

.

Q: How did this text group come about?
Marchant:Brad May actually started it. He was trying to get a group text going with the '07 team. He started reaching out to guys. Sure enough, we got probably 85% of the team on a group text. It coincided with FOX playing Games 1, 2, 4 and 5 here locally in California. It's taken off from there.

The first time we would've been back together would've been the 10th anniversary team of that championship. I, like a lot of the other guys, have never sat down and watched the finals. I got really excited. You forget so many things that happened in the games, like Travis Moen scoring the game winner late in Game 1 and Sammy Pahlsson scoring the game winner late in Game 2. Andy Mac having a monster game in Game 4 for us to have a 3-1 series lead coming home. These memories keep flooding back. I've enjoyed spending time with my family watching the games and I've enjoyed spending time with my other family, which was that team.

Who has been the biggest contributor on the text group?
I can't single out one guy. A lot of guys have really been vocal on it [the group text]. Some guys just want to listen to what other guys have to say, which is fine. It's been pretty special to have this group communicate this way in a time when face-to-face communication is difficult.

How much are you looking forward to doing it again for Game 5 tonight?
I was exhausted after Game 4. Really looking forward to watching Game 5. We know the result, but it's how you get to the result. That's what is the most important. A lot of the dialogue back and forth was, Man, did we take a lot of penalties as a team, and we did. But that was our identity as a team. We're not only going to come after you physically. Yeah, we're going to take a few penalties, but we're still going to get the job done. That's been something very prevalent with the group. Prongs being suspended for Game 4, so we told him he's well-rested for Game 5. "Can't wait to get you back in there."

It's been great. I look forward to 6 p.m. PT on these days because I enjoy watching these games on TV.
