As the New Jersey Devils continue their training camp and preparations for the 2020-21 regular season, Devils Head Coach Lindy Ruff will bring some additional focus to the team's special teams. Following Thursday's practices where the team started practice on its power play, Ruff said there would be more focus on this area of the game over the next few days.
"We're gonna get more special teams time. We had a bit of special teams today, we're mainly focusing on our penalty killing where we'll have some different guys killing for a first time," said Ruff. "Tomorrow's scrimmage we're likely going to focus on a little bit of power play even if there isn't penalties, we'll give teams maybe one power play a period so we can take a look at that. Maybe get a little bit more game speed into that versus practice speed."
Jesper Boqvist, Jack Hughes, Nikita Gusev, Ty Smith and Connor Carrick made up the first power play unit to get time at practice.
