On Monday afternoon, the New Jersey Devils announced the signing of defensive prospect Reilly Walsh. Drafted in 2017, Walsh spent the last three seasons playing in the NCAA as he worked towards turning professional, one step closer to his ultimate dream of playing in the NHL.

Here are Three Things about Reilly Walsh, presented by Wawa:

HARVARD BOY

It's something Walsh says his mom is the proudest of, that her son is attending Harvard studying sociology (and playing hockey, of course!). Walsh joined the Ivy League program in 2017, scoring 20 points in his rookie season for the Crimson. In his sophomore year, Walsh, along with his defensive partner Adam Fox lead the Harvard program in scoring, a unique scenario where two defensemen lead their teams offensively. That year, Walsh had 31 points, including 19 assists.

Walsh's Harvard career ended, after turning pro on August 10.

MIC'D | Reilly Walsh

DEVELOPED UNDER DAD

Reilly's father Mike is currently the head coach of Proctor Academy's hockey program. It's also where Reilly was coached by his dad from 2013-2017. Under his dad, Reilly had a picture-perfect finish to his senior year. It ended with a championship run, bringing home the Lakes Region Championship in 2017. Reilly had a record-breaking year for the school, with 69 points in just 30 games, and becoming the first defenseman since 1985-86 to lead a New England prep school in scoring.

BOBBY ORR

Another influence from Reilly's dad Mike was his love for the Boston Bruins, and more specifically Bobby Orr. The New Hampshire native has long been a fan of Orr's. Although the Hall of Famer had retired long before Walsh was born, the legend of Orr has never left, and he is a proud part of Bruins history. Walsh would hear about and watch videos of Orr, idolizing the offensive defenseman.
