The Devils picked up a point in a 4-3 shootout loss to Winnipeg despite goals by Beau Bennett, Taylor Hall and Stefan Noesen. Here's what we learned:
1) Cory Schneider made 33 saves on Tuesday night. After the game, Hall explained that the club didn't do a good enough job maintaining possession and relied too heavily on Schneider to bail them out.

2) It seems that the criteria for what would warrant a penalty shot remains to be a mystery. Hall was hooked from behind on a clear breakaway late in overtime and never got a shot off before falling to the ice and crashing into the boards. A penalty was called on the play, but boos rained down from the fans at Prudential Center when a penalty shot wasn't awarded. Neither Hall or head coach John Hynes received an explanation from the officials crucial no-call.
3) The progression of the Devils youth and evaluation process continues in Jersey. John Quenneville played 3:13 on the power play tonight. Steven Santini earned 2:50 on the penalty kill. Blake Coleman won 7-of-12 faceoffs. Hynes said after the game that the rookies who have showed growth and have had a presence on the ice will be rewarded with more opportunites in the upcoming games.
The Devils will practice the next two days before traveling to Brooklyn to face the Islanders on Friday night.
