Carpenter All-Star

With two Olympic Silver Medals, five Women's World Gold Medals, a Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, and plenty more accolades, Alex Carpenter has made a name for herself over the past 15 years. But everything started at a Christmas party in New Jersey in the 90s.
"I remember going to those games when my dad (Bobby Carpenter) was playing and coaching, and it was so much fun," said Carpenter. "That's where I learned to skate at the Devils Christmas parties, it's really where I learned to fall in love with the game and to be around all those players when I was younger just meant so much to me."

Carpenter has plenty of memories being around the Devils as her dad played for New Jersey from the 1993-94 season until the 1998-99 season. Following his playing career he coached at both the AHL and NHL levels in the Devils franchise for six seasons. Some of her favorite memories involve borrowing equipment and playing mini sticks.
"My dad brought me after school one day at the rink and I didn't have any skates but I want to skate so I threw on Brian Gionta's skates because they fit me when I was that age," said Carpenter. "And playing in the Wives lounge with Jay Pandolfo even though he wasn't playing he was a good sport and just playing those mini sticks with him those are two of my top memories with the Devils."
Fast forward, Carpenter is now participating in the NHL Skills Competition as a part of All-Star weekend in Fort Lauderdale, showing off her skills and representing women's hockey.
"It's amazing, it's tremendous, you can't beat the weather down here in Florida. It's good to be down here with the guys and the four other women here," said Carpenter. "We're in a new event tonight so I'm hoping my scoring touch is on so we'll see how it goes against these guys."
