Following the game, forwards Corey Perry, Eric Staal and Tomas Tatar spoke with reporters via Zoom, along with interim head coach Dominique Ducharme.
Here are a few highlights from their respective chats:
Perry on the victory over Edmonton:
It's a character win. I thought we were playing well. You give up two late goals in both periods, that could deflate you, but we responded the right way. It's a character win and we can build off that and move forward.

Corey Perry on the character comeback win

Perry on playing alongside Nick Suzuki and Josh Anderson:
We've only been together for six periods. You try to figure it out on the fly and as we go. We try to talk as much as we can on the ice, on the bench and before the game, just to figure out what works and what doesn't. When Andy has time to get going and he gets going, there aren't too many guys that can skate with him. We're just trying to feed off that and find ways to keep putting pressure on our opponents.

Staal on his Canadiens debut:
It was a lot of fun tonight. We had a pretty good start and guys were engaged. Giving up that first one was tough, up and down a little bit in the second, but I just love that we stayed with it and competed. It was a lot of fun to be a part of. I could feel the energy through the TV screens. I wish it was full because I know what this place is like when it's full, especially in that type of moment, but it was awesome nonetheless. I was thankful that it was my opportunity tonight, but as a group we've got a lot of guys that can be difference-makers here.

Staal on scoring the overtime-winner:
There were a lot of good feelings all in one moment. I'll take it and move forward. It was a great play by Toff. I got some speed going wide. I had a little bit of a gap and a chance to get off a pretty good shot, and luckily it went by Smitty. It was a great effort by the guys to continue to stay within the game. We talked about scoring in the first five minutes of the third and we did that, and then we continued to play. There were a couple of great plays, a couple of big goals by our guys to get it tied, and we came away with a good two points.

Tatar on the injury to Brendan Gallagher, who suffered a fractured thumb:
It's a bad feeling when you see a guy like that go into the locker room without really knowing what happened. It's tough. He's a warrior in front of the net, and this kind of thing might happen during a season. Obviously, he'll be missed. We have to do everything we can to battle and get as many points as we can until he gets back, and hopefully he'll be ready to play for us.

Tomas Tatar on the Habs' success against the Oilers

Tatar on the Staal's performance against the Oilers:
I'm sure he's very happy. He deserves it. He played a very hard game. He was very strong in the circle. We're very happy for him. Playing a new system isn't easy. There was a lot of information for him to process, so it might've been overwhelming, but he dealt with that very well. You can see that he's very experienced and I think he can really help us.

Ducharme on Staal's effort:
I liked his game. When you play your first game with a team and you score in overtime, you can't really ask for a better start than that. We're happy with the win. We're happy with his debut.

Dominique Ducharme on Staal's first game in Montreal

Ducharme on the team's comeback in the final frame:
It isn't the first time that we've managed to overcome a deficit. I remember when it happened in Winnipeg. We were down 3-1 and we tied it up before losing in overtime. We had an excellent first period. There were some highs and lows in the second. We fought back in the third period and I think we deserved the win.
