MONTREAL - New pages in the Canadiens' record books aren't written every day.

But, that was the case at the Bell Centre on Tuesday night.
Carey Price turned aside 21 of 22 shots against in a 3-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings to become the winningest goaltender in franchise history courtesy of his 315th career triumph.
Following the historic performance, Price celebrated the feat with his teammates before returning to the ice to salute the crowd after being named the game's first star.
"I wanted to celebrate a bit in the room with my teammates before heading back out there. The guys worked extremely hard to get this win," said Price, who surpassed Hall-of-Famer Jacques Plante in the wins department. "It was also a good moment to share with the fans."

The Anahim Lake, BC native already ranked first in games played among Habs netminders, so he added another souvenir puck to his already impressive collection.
"There were highs and lows. I played with a lot of good players and with excellent teams," mentioned Price. "I'm very proud to be here with this puck in my hands. I'm grateful for all the help I've received since I started out."
Speaking of his teammates, the two offensive standouts on Tuesday night were Max Domi, who scored twice, and Tomas Tatar, who chipped in with a pair of assists.
Both players were incredibly happy for the seven-time All-Star.
"It's a great accomplishment to take over first place with a team like the Canadiens," explained Tatar, who set a new single-season high with 28 assists on the year. "It just shows how good Carey is. He was phenomenal again tonight."
"It's a special night for him, but also for his family. It was exceptional to share the moment with him," said Domi, who registered his 23rd and 24th goals of the season. "He deserves everything that happens to him. He's been the best goalie in the world for a long time and he'll continue to be at the top for a long time. We're lucky to have him."

It's worth noting that Plante also picked up the 314th win of his career against the Red Wings on March 16, 1963.
Bench boss Claude Julien was equally ecstatic for Price, but he knows that his goaltender still has one major objective in mind.
"It was a good night for him. He deserved it. He played a great game. He gave us a chance to win, and was especially good in the third period," mentioned Julien, who tied Bryan Murray for 15th spot on the NHL's all-time wins list among head coaches. "It's really something when you reach a mark like that. I know he's a very humble goaltender, but I also know he's proud of the accomplishment. He still has the goal of winning a Stanley Cup in Montreal."
It wasn't just a historic victory, though. It was also an important one.

Montreal still has the same number of points as the Columbus Blue Jackets with 81, but remains on the outside of the playoff picture looking in.
The hope is that the Canadiens will ultimately find a way to earn a postseason berth in the end, of course.
"It's a good challenge. We have a chance to prove people wrong," said Price. "We've been doing that since the start of the season. I'm excited for the rest of the year."
