MONTREAL -- Montreal Canadiens general manager, Kent Hughes, announced on Monday that forward Artturi Lehkonen has been traded to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for defenseman Justin Barron and a second-round pick in 2024.

Barron, a 6'2'' and 195 lbs right-handed defenseman, registered 20 points (5 goals, 15 assists) in 43 games this season in the AHL with the Colorado Eagles. The Halifax, NS native was selected in the first round (25th overall) by the Avalanche at the 2020 NHL Draft. Barron skated in his first two career NHL games this season. The 20-year-old blueliner played 186 games in the QMJHL with the Halifax Mooseheads, where he captained the team in 2020-21.
Lehkonen was drafted by the Canadiens in the second round (55th overall) in the 2013 NHL Draft. He registered 149 points in 396 games with Montreal.
