Coming off a 0-3-1 stretch from January 7-14, the P-Bruins turned to Zane McIntyre to snap the team out of the funk.
The third-year pro delivered, notching two crucial shutout victories to get Providence back on track. For his impressive play, the American Hockey League awareded McIntyre with the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Jan. 21, 2018.

On January 19, McIntyre faced-off with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a goaltenders duel. McIntyre turned away all 28 shots in a crucial 1-0 victory. The P-Bruins are currently tied with the Penguins atop the Atlantic Division with 52 points.
Two nights later, the former McIntyre thwarted Springfield, denying 27 shots to shutout the Thunderbirds and claim his second win in three nights.
After his two shutout performances, McIntyre improved his record to 13-8-3 in 26 appearances, with a 2.78 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage. McIntyre is the second P-Bruin to earn player of the week honors, with Kenny Agostino being selected on October 15, 2017.

Fantastic Frederic

On January 21, Trent Frederic and Wisconsin Hockey took on the No. 1 team in the nation, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The Badgers had fallen to the Fighting Irish two nights prior and were motivated to flip the script. Playing in the United Center, the home of the Chicago Blackhawks, the Badgers dominated in all phases of the game en route to a 5-0 shellacking.

Up 1-0 early in the second, Frederic extended Wisconsin's lead when he capitalized on a shorthanded breakaway with a nifty drag and fire goal through the five-hole.
The sophomore has now scored a goal in three consecutive games, with 11-8=19 totals on the season. His 19 points rank third on the team for the No. 18 Badgers.

Notes

  • Ryan Donato has maintained his torrid goal-per-game pace, now with 20 goals in 19 games. The Scituate, Mass native has a goal in four consecutive games, and 10 of his past 11 games. Since he was held without a goal on November 24 against Boston College, Donato has 16 goals in 11 games. His 1.05 goals per game leads the NCAA by a large margin. Northeastern's Adam Gaudette a distant second with .71 goals per game.
  • Jack Studnicka continues to pace the Oshawa Generals. Both his 34 assists and 47 points lead the Generals. Powered by Studnicka, Oshawa has climbed to fifth in the Eastern Conference.
