McIntyre got his first taste of the NHL with the Boston Bruins at the start of the 2016-17 season. He dressed on Oct. 25, 2016, because of an injury to regular goaltender Tuukka Rask on Oct. 25, 2016, and made his NHL debut in relief of Malcolm Subban in an eventual 5-0 loss to the Minnesota Wild. McIntyre got made his first NHL start the following night, a 5-2 loss to the New York Rangers.
McIntyre was selected by the Bruins in the sixth round (No. 165) of the 2010 NHL Draft. He played three seasons at the University of North Dakota following two seasons with Fargo of the United States Hockey League. His North Dakota teams made the Frozen Four in back-to-back seasons, winning the national championship in 2016.
