BOSTON- Just two weeks after shopping for the toys, the Bruins set out around the city to deliver them - and a little holiday cheer - to over 600 children at local hospitals on Monday afternoon.
The entire B's roster came together for the initiative which was started by legendary defenseman Ray Bourque during his playing days and has been spearheaded by Patrice Bergeron in recent years. For rookie Danton Heinen, it was his first opportunity to take part in the holiday tradition.
"You walk in there and their faces light up, it's pretty cool to see," said Heinen. "They're going through some tough times, but if we can come and take their minds off it for just a second we have fun doing it. You even see the parents and how happy and appreciative they are, it's not only them, we get a lot out of it too. The kids are fighting and they're an inspiration."
