PITTSBURGH- The Bruins will be in search of their sixth straight victory on Tuesday night as they kick off a three-game road trip against the Penguins at PPG Paints Arena. As they open up a new month, the Black & Gold are aiming to carry over the momentum from a historic 8-1-0 showing in October.
"Getting comfortable, it's hard not to do in life, especially when things are going well," said coach Jim Montgomery. "But this league will humble you quickly and that's something we're trying to remind ourselves. But looking at the morning skate, we're still pretty comfortable."
Here's everything else you need to know for the 8 p.m. ET puck drop on ESPN and 98.5 The Sports Hub:

Marchand A Go

Brad Marchand made his triumphant return to the lineup last Thursday against the Red Wings, but with a back-to-back the next night in Columbus the winger stayed home in Boston in an effort to ease into game action after months of rehabilitation following double hip surgery.
Now, however, Marchand is full go.
As the Bruins begin a crucial road stretch against the Penguins, Rangers, and Maple Leafs, they'll have their alternate captain alongside.
"Really looking forward to it," said Marchand. "Just great to get back in the swing of things and nice to be on the road. It's a great test for our group here this week. Three really good teams. These are the games you like to play.
"You want to play the high-compete games when everyone's really getting into it and you're really testing your team against the other top teams in the league. It will be a good week."
Marchand, who tallied two goals and an assist in his first game back against Detroit, acknowledged that there are still plenty of things he needs to clean up as he gets into the groove of the season with a new head coach behind the bench.
"Some of the new systems that we have, I haven't really had a ton of practice reps with them," said Marchand. "I find myself thinking a bit more than I have in the past. There's not a lot of changes, but there's a few that I caught myself on the wrong side of things a few times, just not being used to it. But, again, that will come with more reps."

Opposing View

The Penguins got off to a 4-0-1 start but have since dropped four straight games, all on the road, meaning they return home on Tuesday night with plenty of incentive to get back in the win column.
"I expect a hard game," said Montgomery. "I've never been in this building and had an easy first 10 minutes. And when you have a leader like [Sidney] Crosby, someone that pushes the pace, usually starts the game - after what they've been through. I think they've got an unreal coach [Mike Sullivan], so they're going to be ready, they're going to be prepared, and they're going come after us."
There are no surprises on the stat sheet for the Pens as longtime captain Sidney Crosby paces the team with 11 points in nine games, while also sitting in a tie for first on the club with four goals along with Evgeni Malkin, Jake Guentzel, and Rickard Rakell. Former B's winger Danton Heinen has six points (three goals, three assists) in nine games, ranking fourth on the team in scoring.
"The first 10 [minutes] will be big, the first five will be," said Marchand. "It will be an interesting start. They always come out hard here. They play really well at home. Especially, they have a lot of guys that have been around for a while that know how to respond and bounce back. We're really gonna be tested tonight. It will be a good test for our group."
Tristan Jarry has started six of nine games for Pittsburgh with a 4-2-0 record 3.02 goals against average, and .915 save percentage. Per the Penguins, the 27-year-old will start between the pipes.
Jeff Carter, meanwhile, is out with a lower-body injury, while Kris Letang (illness) will be a game-time decision.

Wait, There's More

  • Linus Ullmark will make the start in goal for the Bruins. The netminder finished October at 6-0-0, making him one of seven goaltenders in NHL history to finish the opening month without a regulation loss (minimum three games), per NHL Stats.
  • Craig Smith will not play on Tuesday night and is considered day-to-day with an upper-body injury. A.J. Greer will skate on the right wing on the B's third line alongside Trent Frederic and Charlie Coyle.
  • Anton Stralman will play in his second straight game with Matt Grzelcyk on the B's third pairing. The veteran blue liner, suiting up for the first time in 10 days, played 19:31 on Friday night in Columbus. "I thought he played really well last game and I think a smart player like him - I was surprised at how physical he was last game, which was a pleasant surprise," said Montgomery. "He's just someone that keeps making us better."
  • Montgomery, when asked what it is about Marchand that allowed the winger to return ahead of schedule from offseason hip surgery, said, "He's got the heart of a champion. It's just that simple. He's not the lion in the Wizard of Oz, that's for sure."
