The Penguins got off to a 4-0-1 start but have since dropped four straight games, all on the road, meaning they return home on Tuesday night with plenty of incentive to get back in the win column.
"I expect a hard game," said Montgomery. "I've never been in this building and had an easy first 10 minutes. And when you have a leader like [Sidney] Crosby, someone that pushes the pace, usually starts the game - after what they've been through. I think they've got an unreal coach [Mike Sullivan], so they're going to be ready, they're going to be prepared, and they're going come after us."
There are no surprises on the stat sheet for the Pens as longtime captain Sidney Crosby paces the team with 11 points in nine games, while also sitting in a tie for first on the club with four goals along with Evgeni Malkin, Jake Guentzel, and Rickard Rakell. Former B's winger Danton Heinen has six points (three goals, three assists) in nine games, ranking fourth on the team in scoring.
"The first 10 [minutes] will be big, the first five will be," said Marchand. "It will be an interesting start. They always come out hard here. They play really well at home. Especially, they have a lot of guys that have been around for a while that know how to respond and bounce back. We're really gonna be tested tonight. It will be a good test for our group."
Tristan Jarry has started six of nine games for Pittsburgh with a 4-2-0 record 3.02 goals against average, and .915 save percentage. Per the Penguins, the 27-year-old will start between the pipes.
Jeff Carter, meanwhile, is out with a lower-body injury, while Kris Letang (illness) will be a game-time decision.
