Blues get another chance to clinch playoff spot

by Chris Pinkert / St. Louis Blues

DENVER - The Blues will have another chance to clinch a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs with tonight's 8 p.m. CT game against the Colorado Avalanche (FSMW, KMOX).

Here's how the Blues can clinch:

1. Beat the Colorado Avalanche or…

2. Get to overtime against the Avalanche or…

3. Vancouver beats Los Angeles in regulation, overtime or shootout.

Bottom line - if the Blues get one more point, or the Kings lose one more point - the Blues clinch a postseason berth for the sixth straight season.

"We've come a long way," said Blues goalie Jake Allen. "The season could have went one way or could have went the other if we didn't commit to doing the right things. We were on the outside looking in there for awhile. To play some solid hockey for the last 35 games of the year, it means a lot to us. We should be proud of where we've come from, but we've got a long way to go."

"The best part about it is it hasn't been an easy schedule for us," said Blues captain Alex Pietrangelo. "We've played some tough hockey teams and had some real tough travel. Our character is starting to show. We're winning hockey games in different ways with different people contributing. Everybody is getting involved."

The Blues have gone 11-2-1 during the month of March to put themselves in position to clinch a playoff spot. Back in January, the club actually found themselves just outside of the Wild Card for a few days.

"We'd win five, we'd lose five," said defenseman Colton Parayko. "To finally be consistent and stay together and come together at the right time, it just shows what kind of group we have in here.

"It's an exciting time for us. Whenever you have an opportunity to clinch a playoff spot, it's a big chance."
