Pavel Buchnevich continued the trend of early-period goals at 2:33 of the third. Chris Kreider collected the puck behind the Blackhawks net and quickly found the winger in the slot for a one-timer to give the Rangers a 2-1 lead.
Ryan Strome made it 3-1 shortly after, spinning to collect a rebound off Lehner's pad and sliding it home past Keith and Lehner in the process at 4:01 of the third.
Caggiula sprung Kubalik on a breakaway for his second of the night with a neutral-zone pass that the rookie chipped to himself between the Rangers defenseman and then beat Shesterkin with a backhander in tight to cut New York's lead to 3-2 at 6:05.
