Oettinger mask

Dallas Stars goalie Jake Oettinger has a new mask, and this one has some extra meaning.

Designed by Stars assistant equipment manager Dennis Soetaert, Oettinger's mask is dedicated to longtime head equipment manager Steve "Sudsy" Sumner.
Sumner has spent 22 years with the organization and is planning to retire at the end of the season.

Along the sides and top of the mask are the names of each of the Stars goaltenders that Sumner has worked with throughout his tenure, including special images to represent five of the goalies (Ed Belfour, Marty Turco, Kari Lehtonen, Ben Bishop and Oettinger).
The mask also has the name of Sumner's wife (April) and their daughters (Sierra and Taylor) on the chin.

"He's the backbone of the whole thing," Oettinger told the Stars. "A lot of people that aren't super close to the organization don't realize how important the equipment guys, training staff, everyone behind the scenes is to the whole operation. Sudsy's been here for 20-some years and every day we come to the rink, those guys are in a good mood having a good time."
