Marchment will be an interesting case study this season. He had a breakthrough year on a two-way contract last season and was able to hit the jackpot in his free-agent contract with Dallas.
On one hand, Marchment has shown incredible potential, and the Stars are banking he will continue his development. On the other, he had his best season on the best offensive team in the NHL, and that might have skewed his numbers. Because of his contract, Marchment should get more opportunity in Dallas, potentially playing in the top six and getting power-play time. He'll also be able to work with two coaches who he knowns pretty well in Peter DeBoer and Steve Spott.
The one challenge will be dealing with heightened expectations from the new contract. If he can do that, he should have every opportunity to really become a consistent part of the team's new era.
He's big, he's physical and he seems to get to the net. He also is a solid possession player, and DeBoer has a history of creating teams that win the puck possession battle, so the fit should be good.
